A historic inn
Salvadoralso has excellent hotels—though, let’s face it, not as many as a city of its size deserves (and needs). Currently, the area around Pelourinho offers the best lodging options in Salvador.
The beautifulFera Palace Hotel is housed inthe original building of the former Palace Hotel, which opened in 1934. For decades, it was a major symbol of luxury in the capital (and even hosted guests such as Carmen Miranda, Pablo Neruda, and Orson Welles). But it fell on hard times and languished for years and years in a state of neglect. Until, in 2017, it was properly renovated and restored by the Fera Hotels group.
