History
Discover the Fera Palace
From the glamor of the 1930s to its restoration in 2017: discover the history of the iconic Art Deco building on the first street in Brazil.
When everything started
Rua Chile, the first street in Brazil, was recognized as the main business address of the Bahian elite, with several designer stores, hotels, cafes and restaurants – practically an open-air mall.
In 1934 the Palace Hotel appears, which received numerous celebrities and important figures, such as Carmen Miranda, Grande Otelo, Pablo Neruda, Orson Welles and several presidents of the republic.
The commerce on Rua Chile had its peak in the 40s, but with the creation of CAB, the arrival of the bus station and of Shopping in the Tancredo Neves region it was losing its public and soon the old shopping center went into decay.
Several hotels and shops closed and some old houses were demolished.
A new beginning
With a vision of the future, passion for hotels and the history of Bahia, Antonio Mazzafera saw in the old Palace a world of possibilities. So he made his bet: we acquired the building in 2012 and, three years later, we started the restoration works.
Start of works
With an architectural project signed by Adam Kurdahl, the works started in 2015. Beyond the decoration, the restoration of the Fera Palace was also an infrastructure renovation with new electrical, plumbing, structural reinforcement, construction of a new floor, facade restoration and so many other items that have made it a building with every facility to serve its guests in the best possible way.
The rooftop, where the famous Fera Lounge is located, was also not in the original infrastructure: it was designed and built as an additional floor. Its decoration is inspired by elements from Bahia and has one of the most beautiful views of the Bay of Todos os Santos.
The building now has 81 apartments, 6 event rooms and 1 meeting room. The main hall, the current Dona Flor, has hosted several events of the Bahian elite. Today, it has mirrored columns and art deco decoration, rescuing the glamor of the 1930s.
Opening
The Fera Palace Hotel opened to the public in soft opening mode in February 2017. There was a restaurant and a few apartment floors.
The inauguration of the Hotel was a news received with great joy by the Bahians, national and international media, with a lot of repercussions in the main media outlets in Brazil and the world.
In October 2017 we made available all the existing infrastructure, rooftop, lobby and all floors in operation.
Since then, the Fera Palace Hotel has become a symbol of the resumption and revitalization of the Historic Center of Salvador.
Its facade impresses those who pass by the street and our guests are enchanted by the design and elegance with which we work with Art Deco architecture in harmony with elements of Bahia.
